Recordings are saved in the WebM format (video/webm) with VP8/VP9 video encoding and Opus audio encoding. WebM is a modern, royalty-free format supported by all major browsers and media players. The file size is optimized based on your selected quality setting — High (5 Mbps), Medium (2.5 Mbps), or Low (1 Mbps). You can play WebM files with VLC, Windows Media Player, or convert them to MP4 if needed.

If your device has multiple cameras (e.g., a laptop with a built-in webcam and an external USB camera, or a phone with front and rear cameras), you can switch between them using the Camera dropdown menu above the record button. On mobile devices, you'll typically see "Front Camera" and "Back Camera" options. Note that switching cameras during an active recording will stop the current recording — we recommend selecting your desired camera before you begin.

Yes, completely. All video recording is processed entirely on your device (client-side). No video data is ever uploaded, transmitted, or stored on any server. The camera stream goes directly to your browser's recording API, and the resulting video file stays on your computer. Once you close the page, no trace of your recording remains in the tool. We have no access to your camera feed or recorded content.

Yes, audio recording is enabled by default using your device's built-in or external microphone. If you prefer to record video only (silent recording), simply click the "Audio On" toggle button in the settings bar to mute the microphone. The toggle will change to "Audio Off." You can toggle this before or between recordings. This is useful for tutorials where you plan to add voiceover later or for capturing silent footage.

This error usually occurs because: (1) Your browser hasn't been granted camera permission — check the address bar for a blocked camera icon and allow access; (2) Another application is using your camera — close other apps like Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime; (3) No camera is connected to your desktop computer; (4) You're accessing the site via HTTP instead of HTTPS — camera access requires a secure connection. Click "Try Again" after resolving the issue, or refresh the page.

There is no hard time limit imposed by this tool. You can record for as long as your device's available memory and storage allow. However, for very long recordings (30+ minutes at high quality), the video file can become quite large (hundreds of MB). We recommend using Medium quality for longer sessions. The timer display will continue counting beyond 59:59 if needed, though for practical purposes most users record clips under 10 minutes.
