FFmpeg WASM is the full-powered engine that generates genuine animated WebP files (.webp) with true animation support — just like a GIF but in WebP format. It requires downloading ~30MB of WebAssembly on first use (cached thereafter). Canvas mode is a lightweight fallback that extracts individual frames from your video as separate WebP images and plays them in a preview loop. Canvas mode works instantly without any downloads. For production use, we recommend the FFmpeg engine for true animated WebP output.

For web use, we recommend keeping the width between 400-800 pixels. A width of 480px is a sweet spot for social media and messaging platforms. For smaller UI elements like stickers or emojis, 200-300px is sufficient. The height is automatically calculated to maintain your video's original aspect ratio. Larger dimensions dramatically increase file size — a 1200px wide animated WebP can be 4-5x larger than a 480px version with similar quality settings.

Setting the loop count to 0 (Infinite) makes your animated WebP play continuously without stopping — perfect for memes, stickers, and website animations. Setting it to 1 means the animation plays once and stops on the last frame. Values from 2-10 play the animation that many times and then stop. Most use cases benefit from infinite looping (0), but finite loops can be useful for tutorial animations or loading indicators.

Several factors affect file size: resolution (higher = bigger), frame rate (more fps = bigger), quality setting (higher quality = bigger), and video duration (longer = bigger). To reduce file size: lower the output width to 320-480px, reduce the frame rate to 8-10 fps, lower quality to 60-70, or trim your video to a shorter clip before converting.
