Frequently Asked Questions
How does the snore detection work?

The tool uses your device's microphone to capture ambient audio. It analyzes sound volume levels in real-time using the Web Audio API. When the volume exceeds your set sensitivity threshold for more than 1.5 seconds, it registers a snore event. The intensity is calculated based on how far the volume exceeds the threshold — mild snoring produces moderate peaks, while heavy snoring generates sustained high-volume patterns, especially in lower frequencies.

Can this tool run all night without interruption?

Yes, but with caveats. Desktop browsers can typically run overnight if the tab stays active and your computer doesn't sleep. On mobile devices, we recommend keeping the screen on and the browser in the foreground. Some browsers may throttle background tabs — use the Page Visibility API-compatible approach built into this tool. For best results, plug in your device and disable auto-lock/sleep in your OS settings. Note: the Wake Lock API is attempted automatically when recording starts on supported browsers.

Is my audio data private and secure?

Absolutely. All audio processing happens entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server. Audio samples (if enabled) are stored only in your browser's memory and are cleared when you close the page or click "Clear Data." The snore event log is saved to your browser's localStorage, which remains on your device. We never transmit, store, or access your audio data remotely.

What is Simulation Mode?

Simulation Mode generates realistic synthetic snore patterns so you can see how the tool works without needing a microphone. It cycles through simulated breathing with periodic snore bursts of varying intensity. This is great for demonstrations, testing settings, or understanding the interface before committing to an overnight recording. No microphone permission is required in this mode.

How accurate is the snore intensity measurement?

Intensity is measured on a 4-level scale (Light → Severe) based on relative volume peaks. This is a relative measure calibrated to your environment's baseline noise level — not an absolute medical metric. For clinical-grade sleep analysis, consult a sleep specialist. However, this tool provides a useful snapshot of snore patterns and can help identify trends over multiple nights.

Which browsers are compatible?

This tool works best on modern browsers that support the Web Audio API and MediaRecorder API: Chrome 55+, Edge 79+, Firefox 52+, Safari 14.1+, and Opera 42+. Safari may require explicit microphone permission in System Preferences. On iOS, ensure your device is not in silent mode for audio processing to function properly.

Can I export my snore data?

Yes! Click the "Export CSV" button to download a CSV file containing all recorded snore events with timestamps, intensity levels, duration, and peak volume. You can open this file in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet application for further analysis. The CSV includes session metadata for easy tracking across multiple nights.
