What is a garden bed grid planner used for?

A garden bed grid planner helps you visualize plant placement before digging. By arranging plants on a grid, you can optimize spacing, plan companion planting, and ensure each plant gets adequate sunlight. It's especially useful for square-foot gardening, raised beds, and small-space vegetable gardens.

How do I use the drag & drop garden planner?

Desktop: Simply drag any plant from the left palette onto a grid cell. You can also drag plants between cells to rearrange them. Click the Γ— on any occupied cell to remove a plant. Mobile: Tap a plant card to select it (it will highlight), then tap any grid cell to place it. Tap the Γ— to remove.

What is companion planting?

Companion planting is the practice of growing certain plants together for mutual benefit. For example, basil planted near tomatoes can improve flavor and repel pests. Marigolds deter nematodes and attract pollinators. Our planner lets you experiment with different arrangements to find the best companions for your garden.

How much space does each plant need?

Each grid cell typically represents 1 square foot (30Γ—30 cm) in square-foot gardening. A tomato plant may need 1–4 squares depending on the variety, while lettuce can fit 4 plants per square. Adjust your grid size to match your actual garden bed dimensions and plant spacing requirements.

What do the sun icons mean on the plant cards?

Can I save or print my garden layout?

Yes! Click the Print button to get a clean printout of your layout. Use Copy Text to save a text summary to your clipboard. You can also take a screenshot for digital sharing. For future sessions, simply recreate your layout using the planner.
