HSL stands for Hue, Saturation, Lightness. Unlike RGB which mixes red, green, and blue light directly, HSL describes colors in a more human-friendly way: Hue is the color type (0–360° on the color wheel), Saturation is the color intensity (0% = gray, 100% = vivid), and Lightness is the brightness (0% = black, 100% = white). HSL is often preferred by designers because it's more intuitive to adjust.

Our converter uses the standard HSL to RGB algorithm defined in the CSS Color Module Level 3 specification, which is the same algorithm used by all modern browsers. RGB values are rounded to the nearest integer (0–255), and HEX codes use 6-digit hexadecimal representation. This ensures 100% accuracy for web and digital design work.

Hue (0–360°): The base color on the color wheel. 0°=Red, 60°=Yellow, 120°=Green, 180°=Cyan, 240°=Blue, 300°=Magenta, 360°=back to Red.
Saturation (0–100%): Color purity. 0% is completely gray (no color), 100% is the most intense version of the hue.
Lightness (0–100%): Brightness. 0% is pure black, 50% is the normal color, 100% is pure white. At 50% lightness with 100% saturation, you get the purest form of the hue.

When Saturation is 0%, the color is pure gray regardless of the Hue value — all hues produce identical grays at 0% saturation. Similarly, when Lightness is 0% (pure black) or 100% (pure white), the Hue and Saturation values have no visible effect. This is normal behavior: at the extremes of lightness, all hues converge to black or white.
