Guess the Artist & Title — Test Your Art Knowledge
Select difficulty to begin:
10 paintings • Score points for each correct answer
The Famous Painting Quiz is an interactive online game that tests your knowledge of iconic artworks. You are shown a painting and must identify both the artist and the title of the work. It covers masterpieces from the Renaissance to modern art, making it both fun and educational for art lovers of all levels.
Each quiz round features 10 randomly selected paintings from a curated collection of world-famous masterpieces. The collection includes works by Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Salvador Dalí, Edvard Munch, Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo, and more. Paintings span from the 15th to the 20th century.
Scoring works as follows: 5 points for correctly naming the artist, 5 points for correctly naming the painting title — for a maximum of 10 points per painting (100 points total). Using a hint costs 2 points from that painting's potential score. Skipping a painting yields 0 points. Partial credit is awarded if you only get one element right.
There are three difficulty levels: Easy — provides 2 hints per painting and accepts partial/fuzzy matches; Medium — provides 2 hints with slightly stricter matching; Hard — no hints available and requires more precise answers. Choose the level that matches your art expertise!
No! The quiz uses fuzzy matching. It accepts common variations, partial names (e.g., "van Gogh" for "Vincent van Gogh"), and is case-insensitive. Minor spelling variations and alternative titles are also recognized. The system is designed to be fair and focus on your knowledge rather than exact spelling.
Absolutely! Click the "Play Again" button after finishing a round, and the quiz will randomly reshuffle and select a fresh set of 10 paintings. Since the pool contains more than 10 masterpieces, each replay offers a slightly different experience.
The quiz spans multiple art movements: Italian Renaissance (da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli), Dutch Golden Age (Rembrandt, Vermeer), Impressionism & Post-Impressionism (Monet, van Gogh), Expressionism (Munch), Cubism (Picasso), Surrealism (Dalí), and more. It's a journey through 500+ years of art history!
Yes! The Easy mode is specifically designed for art beginners and casual learners. Hints provide helpful context like the art movement and creation year. Even if you don't know the answer, you'll learn something new from the detailed feedback shown after each question. It's an excellent way to build your art knowledge.
Yes, all images are sourced from public domain repositories and museum archives, featuring authentic reproductions of the original paintings. Images are optimized for fast loading while maintaining excellent visual quality, allowing you to appreciate the details of each masterpiece.
The quiz features a rotating selection from these renowned artists: Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, Edvard Munch, Salvador Dalí, Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo, and more. Each artist is represented by one or more of their most iconic works.
