Frequently Asked Questions

A Decision Roulette (also known as a spin-the-wheel or choice wheel) is a visual decision-making tool that helps you randomly select from a list of custom options. Instead of overthinking or wasting time on trivial choices, you simply spin the wheel and let chance guide you. It's widely used for everything from picking dinner to breaking ties in group discussions.

Using the tool is simple: 1) Add your options by typing in the input field and clicking "Add" (or choose a preset). 2) Review your options — you can edit or delete them anytime. 3) Click the big SPIN button. The wheel will rotate with a realistic easing animation and land on a random option. 4) The result appears below the wheel, and is saved to your recent results history. You need at least 2 options to spin.

You can add between 2 and 12 options. A minimum of 2 options is required for the wheel to function (otherwise there's nothing to decide between!). The maximum of 12 ensures each slice remains readable and visually balanced. If you need more than 12, consider grouping similar options or running multiple rounds.

The tool uses JavaScript's Math.random() to determine the landing position, which provides a high-quality pseudorandom result suitable for everyday decision-making. The wheel spins multiple full rotations (5–8 complete turns) with a smooth ease-out deceleration, and the final stopping position is randomly distributed across all options with equal probability. For casual and even most serious decisions, this is sufficiently random. It is not, however, a cryptographically secure random number generator.

Yes! Each option in the list can be edited by clicking on its text — it transforms into an inline input field. Press Enter or click away to save your changes. You can also delete individual options using the trash icon (though at least 2 options must remain), or clear everything with the "Clear All Options" button. The wheel redraws instantly after any change.

The possibilities are endless! Here are some popular use cases: Food & Dining: pick a restaurant, cuisine, or meal prep idea. Games & Activities: choose a board game, party activity, or team-building exercise. Work & Productivity: decide which task to tackle first, who presents next, or which idea to pitch. Fitness: randomize your workout routine. Classroom: select a student, topic, or reward. Travel: pick a destination or weekend itinerary. Trivial Fun: settle friendly debates like "Who takes out the trash?"

Absolutely! The Decision Roulette is fully responsive. On smaller screens, the wheel and options panel stack vertically for easy access. The canvas scales proportionally, touch targets are generously sized, and the spin button stretches to fill available width on very small devices. It works seamlessly across desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
