Diffusion: Add 5–8 drops total to your diffuser with water. Run for 30–60 minutes with ventilation.
Topical: Dilute with a carrier oil at 2–5% concentration (6–25 drops per 1 oz carrier). Always patch test on inner arm first.
Bath: Mix 5–10 drops with a dispersant (full-fat milk, bath salts, or carrier oil) before adding to bathwater.
Steam: Add 3–4 drops to a bowl of hot water, lean over with a towel, close eyes, and inhale for 5–10 minutes.

Lavender is the most studied and widely recommended essential oil for sleep. A carrier oil is a vegetable-based oil used to dilute essential oils before topical application. Undiluted essential oils can cause skin irritation, sensitization, or burns. Carrier oils like Jojoba, Fractionated Coconut Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil safely deliver essential oils to the skin while providing their own moisturizing benefits. Never apply undiluted essential oils directly to the skin.

Peppermint oil (cooling, analgesic), Lavender (relaxing, anti-spasmodic), and Eucalyptus (sinus-clearing) are the top three oils for headache relief. Peppermint applied to temples (diluted) can help tension headaches, while Lavender inhaled may reduce migraine severity. While generally safe when used properly, certain groups need extra caution: Pregnant/nursing women should consult a healthcare provider (avoid Clary Sage, Rosemary, and many others). Children under 6 need heavily diluted blends (0.5–1% concentration). Pets (especially cats) are sensitive to many oils including Tea Tree, Citrus, and Peppermint—diffuse in well-ventilated areas only. Those with asthma, epilepsy, or skin conditions should seek professional guidance before use.

Store blends in dark amber or cobalt glass bottles to protect from UV light degradation. Keep them in a cool, dark place (ideally 15–25°C / 60–77°F), away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Properly stored, most blends last 6–12 months. Always label your blends with the date and ingredients. Citrus oils tend to oxidize faster—refrigerate for extended shelf life.

Top notes (citrus, peppermint) evaporate quickly—they're the first impression, fresh and uplifting. Middle notes (lavender, rosemary) form the heart of the blend and last 1–2 hours. Base notes (cedarwood, vetiver, frankincense) evaporate slowly, grounding the blend and lasting 4+ hours. A well-balanced blend typically includes all three layers.
