Tune your soprano, concert, tenor, or baritone ukulele with precise reference notes and microphone tuning.

Ukulele Tuning FAQ

Standard ukulele tuning (also called C tuning) is G4–C4–E4–A4, from the 4th string (top, closest to your face) to the 1st string (bottom). The 4th string G is actually higher than the 3rd string C – this is called re-entrant tuning, which gives the ukulele its characteristic bright sound.

Yes! Baritone ukuleles usually use D-G-B-E (like the top four strings of a guitar). Some players use low-G tuning (G3–C4–E4–A4) which replaces the high G with a lower octave. Other alternative tunings include A-D-F#-B (D tuning) and open tunings like G-C-E-G.

Ukuleles (especially with nylon strings) go out of tune frequently, especially when new. It's recommended to check your tuning every time you play. New strings may take several days to stretch and settle in.

Allow the website to access your microphone. Pluck one string at a time clearly and let it sustain. The tuner will detect the closest note and show how far you are from the target pitch. Adjust the tuning peg until the needle centers and the indicator turns green.

The reference notes are specifically for GCEA ukulele tuning, but the microphone tuner can detect any pitch. It works best for plucked string instruments within the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1000 Hz.
