Many poetic forms depend on syllable patterns. Haiku requires 5‑7‑5 syllables. Sonnets follow iambic pentameter (10 syllables per line). Limericks, cinquains, and tanka all use precise syllable counts to create rhythm and structure.

The current algorithm is optimized for English. For languages with different phonetic rules (like French or Spanish), the results may be inaccurate. We recommend using language‑specific syllable counters for best accuracy.

A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound in speech (like /k/, /æ/, /t/ for "cat"). A syllable usually contains at least one vowel phoneme and can be made of multiple phonemes. This tool counts syllables, not phonemes.
