Frequently Asked Questions

What is image mirroring / flipping?
Image mirroring (also called flipping) reverses an image along a specified axis. A horizontal flip swaps left and right — like looking in a mirror. A vertical flip swaps top and bottom — like a reflection in water. The "Both" option applies both flips, which is mathematically equivalent to a 180° rotation.
When should I use horizontal vs vertical mirror?
Horizontal mirror is commonly used for selfies (correcting the mirrored front-camera effect), creating symmetrical designs, or fixing images where text appears backwards. Vertical mirror is ideal for creating reflection effects (water reflections, architectural symmetry), artistic compositions, or correcting upside-down scans.
Does mirroring reduce image quality?
No. Our tool uses lossless canvas-based pixel manipulation. The downloaded PNG preserves the original resolution and image quality. Unlike some online tools that compress uploads, we process everything locally at full resolution — your image quality stays intact.
Is my image uploaded to any server?
Absolutely not. All image processing happens entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images never leave your device. This tool works offline too — once the page loads, no internet connection is required. Your privacy is 100% guaranteed.
What image formats are supported?
We support all major raster image formats: PNG, JPEG/JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and TIFF (browser-dependent). Note that animated GIFs will be rendered as a single static frame. SVG files may also work in modern browsers. Downloaded images are saved in lossless PNG format for best quality.
Can I use this tool on mobile devices?
Yes! This tool is fully responsive and works great on smartphones and tablets. You can upload images from your photo library, take a new photo directly, or paste from clipboard. The interface adapts to smaller screens for a smooth mobile experience.
What's the difference between mirror and rotate?
Mirroring (flipping) reflects the image across an axis — like holding it up to a mirror. The content becomes reversed. Rotation spins the image around a center point without reversing it. Horizontal + Vertical mirror combined equals a 180° rotation. A single mirror cannot be achieved by rotation alone.
How do I mirror only part of an image?
This tool mirrors the entire image. If you need to mirror only a specific portion, we recommend cropping the desired area first using a crop tool, then mirroring the cropped result. For more advanced partial mirroring, photo editing software like GIMP or Photoshop would be better suited.
