Concrete Mix Calculator - Online Cement Sand Gravel Ratio Tool
Calculate required bags of cement, sand, and gravel for a given concrete volume using standard mix ratios (1:2:4, etc.). Supports metric and imperial.

Calculate exactly how much gravel, crushed stone, or aggregate you need for driveways, paths & landscaping
Multiply length × width × depth to get volume in cubic feet, then divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards. Multiply cubic yards by the material's density (tons per cubic yard) to get tonnage. Always add 10–20% extra for compaction and waste.
Gravel is naturally weathered and has rounded edges (like pea gravel or river rock). Crushed stone is mechanically broken and has angular edges that lock together better — ideal for driveways and bases where stability matters.
A standard residential driveway needs 4–6 inches of gravel. For heavy-duty use, go with 6–8 inches. Use larger angular stone (#57 or #411) for the base layer and finer material for the top layer if desired.
Loose gravel compacts by 10–20% once spread and rolled. Additionally, cutting, spillage, and uneven ground mean you'll need buffer material. Ordering 15% extra prevents the costly hassle of a second small delivery.
For walkways, ¼" to ⅜" pea gravel or decomposed granite works well — it's comfortable underfoot and compacts nicely. Use 2–3 inches depth over a compacted base for best results.
It varies by material: pea gravel ≈ 1.4 tons/yd³, crushed stone #57 ≈ 1.6 tons/yd³, granite ≈ 1.8 tons/yd³, river rock ≈ 1.55 tons/yd³. Always check with your supplier for exact density figures.
Measure the diameter across the circle. Area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)². Then multiply by depth for volume. For irregular shapes, break the area into smaller rectangles and circles, calculate each separately, then sum them up.
At 2 inches deep, one ton of crushed stone covers about 80–100 square feet. At 4 inches deep, it covers about 40–50 square feet. Coverage varies significantly based on material density and depth — use our calculator above for precise estimates.
#57 stone is a widely used grade of crushed aggregate, approximately ¾ inch in size. It drains well, compacts firmly, and is the go-to choice for driveway bases, French drains, and general construction applications.
Yes! Switch to metric mode and enter dimensions in meters and centimeters. The calculator handles all conversions automatically and outputs metric tonnes (1 metric tonne = 1,000 kg ≈ 1.102 US tons).
Compact every 2-3 inches of gravel for maximum stability. A plate compactor rental is worth the investment for driveways.
Install geotextile fabric under gravel to prevent it from sinking into soil and to block weed growth. Extends the life of your project significantly.
Stone from different batches may vary slightly in color. Order your full quantity (including the 15% margin) in one delivery for consistent appearance.
