The decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is catalyzed by iodide ions (from KI) or by the enzyme catalase (present in yeast). The rapid release of oxygen gas creates foam when mixed with liquid soap.

Concentrated hydrogen peroxide (>6%) is corrosive and can cause skin burns. Always wear proper protective equipment and keep away from children. The reaction is exothermic; the foam may be hot.

Yes, 3% works but produces less vigorous foam. Use more volume and yeast as catalyst for a family-friendly version. Expect a slower, smaller foam fountain.
