WPM is calculated using the standard formula: (total correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ (elapsed time in minutes). The "5 characters = 1 word" convention comes from the average English word length including the trailing space. Our tool tracks only correctly typed characters, so your WPM reflects net speed — not inflated by error corrections.
