When a word is split across two lines in a PDF, it often appears with a hyphen at the end of the first line (e.g., "under-
standing"). Our tool detects these patterns by looking for line-ending hyphens followed by a lowercase letter on the next line. It then removes the hyphen and merges the word fragments back together. Words that end with a hyphen before a capital letter (like true dashes or compound words starting a new sentence) are left intact to avoid incorrect merging.

When enabled, the tool distinguishes between single line breaks (which are merged into spaces to form continuous text) and double line breaks (which are kept as true paragraph separators). This preserves the document's paragraph structure while fixing mid-paragraph line breaks. If disabled, all line breaks are converted to spaces, resulting in one continuous block of text.
